A huge month for the hosts
AC Milan’s mini slump in Serie A is perhaps understandable, considering they have BIGGER fish to fry in the Champions League right now. However, they’ll be determined to seal a top-4 place and that means getting positive results in fixtures just like this one. The Rossoneri snatched a last-gasp draw against Roma in a recent pivotal top-4 clash courtesy of Alexis Saelemaekers in the 97th minute to avoid defeat to a positional rival.
Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio side have wobbled in recent weeks with defeats to Torino and Inter, making the top of the table even more congested. Both Rome and Milan sides have ambitions of following Napoli into next season’s Champions League, as do Juventus (if their points penalty isn’t reinstated) and Atalanta. This is one of the most star-studded chases for Champions League places in Serie A history.
The last 10 meetings between AC Milan and Lazio all produced a winner, with Lazio prevailing 4-0 in the reverse fixture in January.

A reunion for The Special One
José Mourinho’s men were forced to settle for a share of the spoils against AC Milan on a dramatic night at the Olimpico last weekend, and now they face the Rossoneri’s city rivals Inter. Mourinho took the Nerazzurri to an unprecedented treble in 2010 and is fondly remembered at the club but the Portuguese tactician will have little to no room for sentiment as his current side scramble for critical points.
Inter meet AC Milan just 4 days after this clash in a mouthwatering Champions League semi-final, while Roma have a semi-final of their own to look forward to a day later against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

Heavy metal football is back
Jürgen Klopp’s Reds have found their shooting boots again, but the clean sheets have vanished. Ahead of their midweek clash with Fulham, they had conceded 9 goals in 5, but were celebrating 4 wins on the bounce since a thrilling 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.
April could be split neatly into 2 parts for Brentford. They failed to win their first 4 matches, following a 3-3 draw against Brighton with defeats to Man Utd, Newcastle and Wolves. They then picked up a decent 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and wins against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.
Brentford talisman Ivan Toney’s strike against Forest was his 20th league goal of the campaign. Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have more than the excellent Englishman this season.

Champions’ destiny in their own hands
Bayern lead Dortmund at the summit of the table by a solitary point with 4 matches to play. This is undoubtedly one of the tightest Bundesliga title races in years, and the champions also have first-mover advantage here with BVB not playing until Sunday.
Thomas Tuchel’s side, however, have only won 1 of their last 3 league outings and look far from their dominant best. Bayern won the reverse fixture 6-1 in November 2022 with Serge Gnabry bagging a hat-trick. Gnabry is the only player to hit 10+ goals in each of the last 7 Bundesliga seasons.

BIG match in the fight for 2nd, perhaps the title race too?
Surprise package Lens are in fine form. A midweek success over Toulouse means Franck Haise’s team have now won 6 of their last 7 Ligue 1 matches and 5 of those 6 successes have been accompanied by clean sheets. It’s no wonder they’re in the title mix this season with just 25 goals conceded, making theirs the best defensive record in the division.
The losers here, should there be any, will likely feel as though their title chances are gone. The winners, meanwhile, will still harbour faint hopes of catching a faltering, inconsistent PSG side. The Parisians and defending champions will reportedly be without Lionel Messi for 2 upcoming matches after the club suspended the Argentine for an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia.
Belgian striker Loïs Openda has 18 Ligue 1 strikes for Lens this season and has scored 3 of their last 4 goals. For Marseille, Turkish winger Cengiz Ünder has scored in each of his last 3 league matches.
Marseille haven’t lost in 8 league matches since facing PSG in February. There’s a lot riding on this clash with just a point separating the sides and only 4 games to play once the final whistle blows here.

Only Alexandre Lacazette, Jonathan David and Kylian Mbappé have more Ligue 1 goals than Lens striker Openda (18) this season
Gunners seek to avenge last May’s defeat
The Magpies are flying and on course to finish inside the top 4, perhaps even the top 3, as things stand. Eddie Howe’s team have won their last 3 matches and scored 13 goals in the process.
The visiting Gunners won’t have fond memories of the corresponding fixture last May. A 2-0 loss at St. James’ Park in which they were outmuscled in all portions of the pitch took Champions League qualification out of their hands. Failure to win here could be similarly catastrophic for their title challenge.
Newcastle still boast the best defensive record in the division with just 27 goals conceded, but they’ve not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 6 outings. The clean sheets have dried up for Arsenal too, with their last shutout coming 8 games back against Fulham on 12th March.
Arsenal got back to winning ways with a 3-1 success over Chelsea in midweek to snap a streak of 4 winless matches. It temporarily sent them top of the Premier League again too.
Attacking players are doing the job for both sides though. In-form Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has 5 goals in his last 3 matches. Ex-Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock has 3 goals and 6 assists this season for the Magpies, including 2 assists in his last 3 matches. Some called his pass for Alexander Isak in a recent drubbing of Tottenham the assist of the season.
Speaking of midfielders at the top of their game, Arsenal skipper Martin Ødegaard’s brace against Chelsea took him to 14 Premier League goals for the campaign. The Gunners are the only side in Europe’s top 5 leagues with at least 4 players in double figures for goals this season.
In February 2011, Cheick Tioté’s late strike for Newcastle against Arsenal at St. James’ Park completed a comeback from 4-0 down to level the contest at 4-4. It’s the only time in history a side has led a Premier League game by 4 goals and not gone on to win. What drama is in store this time around?

According to OptaJoao, Brazilian players have scored 82 Premier League goals in 2022/23, the highest tally from that nation in a single season: can Joelinton, Bruno Guimarães, Gabriel Jesus or Gabriel Martinelli add to that on Sunday?
