LaLiga 2023/24: Start date, transfers, fixtures and more

LaLiga resumes on Friday 11th August. We’ve got all of the key info, as well as a refresher as to where things stand, some tasty transfer tidbits and more.
Recap
Barcelona were far too strong for the competition as they romped to their first title in 4 years by 10 points ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid. Atlético Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, reminded us all that form is temporary and class is permanent, ending the last campaign with 15 goals and 16 assists.
BIGGEST transfers
Jude Bellingham arrives at the Bernabéu following a mammoth €103m move to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund. They have also brought in the 18-year-old Turkish playmaker Arda Güler for €18m, a stylish left-footer who was attracting interest from around Europe.
Ílkay Gündoğan wrote his name into Man City folklore with memorable clutch goals in huge games. Barcelona will be delighted to sign a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer. Veteran Athletic Bilbao centre-back Iñigo Martínez has also arrived for no fee.
Speaking of quality and experience, the aforementioned Griezmann has made his return to Atlético Madrid permanent with a €20m transfer from Barça after starring for Atléti on loan.
Wildcard players to watch
Eduardo Camavinga was recently spotted acting as goalkeeper in a game of garden football. Obviously we won’t see him between the sticks for Los Blancos, but the central midfielder did appear at left-back for Real on a number of occasions last season. The 20-year-old is supremely gifted and a joy to watch wherever he’s selected.
Promoted teams
Granada return after a 1-year-absence, while Las Palmas are back in LaLiga after relegation in 2018. Who can ever forget Kevin-Prince Boateng’s stunning Puskás Award-nominated strike for them in 2016? The third side back in LaLiga are Deportivo Alavés, who beat Levante in the play-off final.
Dark horses
Real Sociedad are back in the Champions League. Whether or not that complicates their progress in LaLiga remains to be seen, but they’ve got a number of exciting players operating under manager Imanol Alguacil.
Malian star Hamari Traoré arrives from Rennes to bolster their options at right-back, while central defender Robin Le Normand is constantly linked with moves to the Premier League. Wide attackers Mikel Oyarzabal (26) and Takefusa Kubo (22) are both already vastly experienced in the Spanish top-flight despite their ages, and 24-year-old Martin Zubimendi anchors everything in midfield. The magical David Silva, now 37, is still going strong.
Athletic Bilbao host Real Madrid on Saturday 12th at the iconic San Mamés.
Latest news
Inter Miami have sealed a move for Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets, who’ll be linking up with old friend Lionel Messi at David Beckham’s MLS franchise.
